Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Katniss's character conflicts are the most immediate, since she is the story's narrator. She narrates in the present tense, an effective choice since that leaves the reader uncertain whether she will survive the Games intact. Were the story narrated in past tense, it would indicate to us that she must have survived since she is telling the tale. The narration is also effective in providing dramatic irony throughout the novel, as we can infer much about Katniss both from what she chooses to tell us and how she chooses to tell it. Katniss is an example of a stoic hero – she is well aware of the unfairness of the world around her, having had to grow up so quickly to provide for her mother and Prim. However, she has quashed both her emotional responses to her totalitarian society as well as her childish identity so that she can maintain the hardness necessary to be an effective hunter and provider. A contemporary definition of a stoic is one who does not show his or her em

Why do leaves change colours?

Imagen
Leaves are loaded with chlorophyll, which makes them green. But all green plants also carry a set of chemicals called carotenoids. On their own, these look yellow or orange—carotenoids give color to corn and carrots, for example—but they’re invisible beneath the chlorophyllic green of a leaf for most of the year. In the fall, when the leaves are nearing the end of their life cycle, the chlorophyll breaks down, and the yellow-orange is revealed. “The color of a leaf is subtractive, like crayons on a piece of paper,” says David Lee, formerly of Florida International University, who has studied leaf color since 1973. Most trees have evolved to produce a different set of chemicals, called anthocyanins, when it’s bright and cold in autumn. These have a reddish tint and are responsible for the color of a blueberry. They’re also sometimes made in newly sprouting leaves, which explains their sometimes reddish tint. Where chlorophyll and anthocyanins coexist, the co

Do we ever make mistakes? Have you ever made this mistake?

Imagen
We sometimes make mistakes because of inattention. If the subject doesn´t agree with the verb, you will make  the same mistake time after time. Even English speakers make mistakes once in a while. Not everybody is proud of their own mistakes. Only the most alert-minded students are able to check their mistakes before handing the tests in. Some students were so hard-working that they repeated all the exercises before the term exams so that they could avoid making those mistakes again. "Luckily you all will have corrected some grammar errors, which are silly and easy to solve,  by the end of the semester", the old professor stated. Some explanations are so incredibly complicated that teachers have to post their lessons so that the students can concentrate on the topic completely.

In our high school we have autistic students with this very problem. Open up your ears, don´t be prejudiced and narrow-minded and try to understand, because it is EASY. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
