PATIENCE will be REWARDED!!! We have had exams with all the levels and the two picks of exams in front of me are similar. So I consider myself lucky BECAUSE the pick of corrected texts and the to-be-corrected-soon pick are the same height. It takes time to correct but it is part of the job, though the hardest for teachers. Next Monday 16th February, we´ll start to work on our projects on  HEALTHY LIFESTYLES in 4º ESO C. The THEATRE APPOINTMENTS  for  ESO  are getting closer as well. Outings for good plays in English are just here. Emotions running high and expectations growing day after day. In 1º AMPLIACIÓN  we have switched groups and we are going practising our listening and speaking skills. The sooner we realise that practise makes the master, the better. In 2º AMPLIACIÓN we are approaching the  2nd Term Evaluation, so exams are going to be BIG/HARD/AWESOME and studying and revising have become a MUST. 1º Bachillerato 3/4  students are learning to WRITE

Passive for everybody

Imagen
In passive sentences, the thing receiving the action is the subject of the sentence and the thing doing the action is optionally included near the end of the sentence. You can use the passive form if you think that the thing receiving the action is more important or should be emphasized. You can also use the passive form if you do not know who is doing the action or if you do not want to mention who is doing the action. [Thing receiving action] + [be] + [past participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action] Examples: Active / Passive Overview Active Passive Simple Present* Once a week, Tom cleans the house. Once a week, the house is cleaned by Tom. Present Continuous* Right now, Sarah is writing the letter. Right now, the letter is being written by Sarah. Simple Past* Sam repaired the car. The car was repaired by Sam. Past Continuous* The salesman was helping the customer when the thief came into the store. The customer was being h

WHAT´S UP HEALTH PROBLEMS: VOCABULARY SB, page 34 1º BACHILLERATO 3/4 After yesterday´s explanation we have done some classwork,  WB, pages 30-31, exercises 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 ( the last ones were done but not corrected, though I am considering to have an exercise similar in the next text) It is a very talkative large class, with them I go very slowly. The lessons are painfully slow because of the constant interruptions and the noise of their chatter and they usually have very little interest  or attention during the explanations and corrections. Bad attitude (like trolls) today as every Friday. Planning of the following week 13th January: Homework, WB: unit 3, pages 20 to 23 ( both included) we are having the exercises  corrected. 15th January  Reader´s test 16th January Listening activities from SB & WB or simila

Happy Thanksgiving

Imagen
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States and on the second Monday of October in Canada. Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, and has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well.   In the United States, the modern Thanksgiving holiday tradition is commonly, but not universally, traced to a poorly documented 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. The 1621 Plymouth feast and thanksgiving was prompted by a good harvest. Pilgrims and Puritans who began emigrating from England in the 1620s and 1630s carried the tradition of Days of Fasting and Days of Thanksgiving with them to New England. Several days of Thanksgiving were held in early New E

Education System in UK

Imagen
EDUCATION SYSTEM IN THE UK Across the UK there are five stages of education: early years, primary, secondary, Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE). Education is compulsory for all children between the ages of 5 (4 in Northern Ireland) and 16. FE is not compulsory and covers non-advanced education which can be taken at further (including tertiary) education colleges and HE institutions (HEIs). The fifth stage, HE, is study beyond GCE A levels and their equivalent which, for most full-time students, takes place in universities and other HEIs and colleges. Early Years Education In England since September 2010, all three and four year olds are entitled to 15 hours of free nursery education for 38 weeks of the year. Early Years education takes place in a variety of settings including state nursery schools, nursery classes and reception classes within primary schools, as well as settings outside the state sector such as voluntary pre-schools, privately run nur

No good..uno de esos días en que nada te sale bien!

Everyone has (had) bad days.  You forget your homework  or leave your lunch at home.  Someone says something rude or uncaring.  The money you thought was in the bank  has been spent.  You wake up feeling sick on the day  of an important job interview. All of these things are  no good .  It sounds like bad grammar…  nd maybe it is… but instead of saying  “not good,” it’s also OK to say  no good .  Your bicycle has a flat tire? That’s  no good .  You can’t find your favorite jeans? That’s  no good .  You fall and break your ankle?  That’s definitely  no good !  To be  no good  is to be unfortunate,  disappointing, sad, or just plain terrible. It isn’t only situations that are described this way.  No good  is also used to talk about something  that has stopped working.  Your broken cell phone,  your computer that won’t start,  the refrigerator that won’t stay cold…  all of these things are  no good . taken from e-b
