pretérito imperfecto, acción que se daba en el pasado y ya no ocurre en este momento.

Él trabajaba en un hospital ( le han despedido, ahora está buscando trabajo)

Ella obtenía sobresalientes en el colegio ( en el instituto suspende o saca resultados bajos)

AUXILIARY VERB:  DID / DIDN´T PARA NEGATIVAS E INTERROGATIVAS

s+ USED TO + INFINITIVE (verbo no conjugado)

EXAMPLE:

Mi hermana murió de una sobredosis. PAST SIMPLE

My sister died of an overdose

Yo siempre trataba de ayudarla.  USED TO + INFINITIVO

I always used to help her.

No nos habíamos enterado de nada PAST PERFECT

We hadn´t known anything

hasta que un profesor nos llamó. PAST SIMPLE

until one of her teachers called us.

Estaba consumiendo   PAST CONTINUOUS

She was consuming

cuando se desmayó en clase, dejó de respirar. PAST SIMPLE

when she fainted during the lesson, she just stopped breathing.

La médico del SAMUR no pudo hacer nada, MODAL VERB IN THE PAST

The paramedic couldn´t do anything for her

solo certificó el fallecimiento. PAST SIMPLE

she just certified her death.
